  2. Kids' Newbery Awards Book Club

    April 22, 2019, 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM @ Children's Library

    Kids ages 8-12 are invited to our new book club meeting two Mondays a month from 3:30-4:30 in the Kids’ Room. The first meeting of the month we will share our first impressions of that month's book, discuss other favorite books, and do a project or activity. The second meeting each month will be to talk about that month's book pick and do an activity or craft. Kids can come to one or both meetings, and check out the book at the kids' desk. No registration required. Just show up in the kids' room!

  11. Día de los Niños Community Event

    April 26, 2019, 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM

    This annual community-funded event celebrating children, books, and diversity, is in its 16th year! Families are invited to Ferns Park in Woodland, CA, to spend the afternoon enjoying multicultural performers, bounce houses, face painting, fun activities sponsored by local organizations, and a book giveaway where every child gets a free new book to take home! Local organizations will have information for families, Las Brasas will be selling food, and the performances will be Fenix Drum, Kuk Sool Won, and the Ballet Folklórico de Beamer. Join us from 3-6 on Friday, April 26th!

    This year the Woodland Public Library will be hosting its fourth annual Touch-a-Truck, a free event for kids and families where they can get up close to many amazing vehicles. Join us in our parking lot from 11-1 to check out and even get inside of cool vehicles like a double-decker bus, ambulance, fire truck, crane, and more!     Learn how to safely use the panel saw, drill press, band saw, scroll saw, disc sander, and belt sander in Square One! This one hour class will cover the basics of safe operation. Successful completion allows the patron to return to Square One during open shop hours to use this equipment. Participants must be 18 or older, bring a valid library card and ID, have a signed waiver on file, and wear close-toed shoes.

    An introduction to the 3D printers available in Square One. In this Basic Use and Safety course students will learn how to load filament, upload files for printing, and adjust basic print settings for optimal printer performance. Upon successful completion of this course students will be authorized to use the 3D printers during open shop hours in Square One. Students must wear close-toed shoes, bring a Woodland Public Library card in good standing, and a photo ID. All participants under the age of 18 must have a liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian in order to attend.

    How to Solder: A Beginner's Guide Learning how to solder with proper soldering techniques is a fundamental skill every maker should master. In this tutorial we outline the basics of soldering irons, soldering stations, types of solder, desoldering and safety tips. Whether you're building a robot or working with Arduino, knowing how to solder will come in handy. Successful completion allows the patron to return to Square One during open shop hours to use this equipment. Participants must be 12 or older, bring a Woodland Library Card in good standing, photo ID, have a signed waiver on file and wear close-toed shoes. No sign-up required. Just show up early to ensure your place and complete your waiver if it's your first visit.

    Learn basic electronics and electronic principles. The following topics and practices will be covered in 8 sessions of 2 hours each. 1. Actual hands-on construction of simple circuits. 2. Use of a digital voltmeter to make electrical measurements in circuits you make. 3. How to interpret electrical measurements. 4. Learn the meaning of electrical terms such as volts, amps, watts and more. 5. Identify and successfully use electronic components. 6. Lean how electrical principles relate to common everyday terms and measure. 7. Do simple calculations to determine energy and power from measurements you make. 8. Learn and apply Ohm's law to construct your own unique circuits successfully. 9. Introduction to the basic tools needed to work with electrical components. 10. Safety when working with electricity. Participants should provide their own writing materials for taking notes.
