  1. Woodland Public Library Science & Society Discussion Series Light, Health, Environment: Color Performance and Circadian Rhythm Considerations in New LED Lighting Design

    September 19, 2019, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM @ Leake Community Room

The evolution of solid-state lighting technology has resulted in the commercial availability of exceedingly high-color-quality phosphors (lights), offering the opportunity for greatly enhanced lighting quality, particularly in healthcare and clinical settings. Lighting design with high-efficacy broad-spectrum light sources can significantly reduce color distortion and more closely emulate natural light. This emerging LED technology also allows for adjustments supporting circadian design principles for healthcare and other settings (see photos). The presentation will describe the theoretical basis and design considerations for using amber-based lighting, with emphasis on healthcare settings. Prof. Siminovitch is the director of the California LightingTechnology Center (CLTC) and associate director of the Energy Efficiency Center, and holds the Arthur H. Rosenfeld endowed chair in energy efficiency at UCD. For information: Contact science.library@cityofwoodland.org or (530) 661-5980
