EARLY LEARNERS PROGRAM: AGES 0-3
Summer Reading Program starts June 1st, 2019
The library wants to help you fill your young child’s summer with many opportunities for early literacy activities. This summer we invite you to read, make, and explore! You can read books to your child, explore with your child, and make time to have fun with your child. And don't forget! There is also a summer reading program for adults this summer!
Read 5 books to your child and they get a free book and book bag.
Read 5 books, Make time for 5 things, and Explore in 5 ways to earn a toy prize!
Continue reading to your child throughout the summer to earn more badges and an entry into a raffle. All the books you read will also count toward our 1000 Books before Kindergarten program on Beanstack, so make sure you register for that program too!
Reading and activities may be logged on paper logs or online using Beanstack.
Young children will win a free book after reading and logging five books. After they complete the Read, Make, and Explore challenges they will win a choice of a toy prize: a set of maracas or a soft bumpy ball. The prize store will open on Monday, June 17th, and prizes can be claimed until August 16th.
The raffle prize is a Very Hungry Caterpillar stuffed animal and bilingual board book.
Logging and Badges
On Beanstack young children will earn badges for logging books, and for completing Make and Explore activities. Click on the activity badges to see the activity choices. There is always a choice to write in your own idea. Completing one activity will earn you the badge.
For young children logging on paper, there are some suggestions of activities for Make and Explore on the log. If you want to have more ideas we recommend you use Beanstack.
Paper logs will be available at the library or for download here on June 1st.
This summer we will have our regular storytimes including the Farmer's Market Storytime on Saturdays outside at 10:30 AM. The Summer at the Library Kickoff Party will be on June 8th from 1:00-3:00 in the library courtyard and in the Leake Room, with a performance by Circus of Smiles. There will be face painting, games hosted by Rec2Go and an opportunity to register and pick up a log for the program.
We will have free lunch for kids 18 and under starting on June 10th, which they can enjoy on the lawn in front of the library between 12 and 12:30 Monday through Friday (except on the 4th of July). On Tuesdays we will have special events and performers starting at 1 PM, which are listed on the calendar below as well as on our online calendar.
The summer events are funded by donations from the Friends of the Woodland Public Library, a grant from the State Library, and the generosity of Kuk Sool Won and the Theater & Dance Annex.
