Every week we will feature a unique craft or activity like an LED flashlight, egg drop challenge, or a laser cut trebuchet to build, as well as other activity stations like button making and Tapigami. Space is limited.

    This week's special event for Summer at the Library is The Secrets of Magic show with Brian Scott!! Bring the kids for a free summer lunch in front of the library at 12 and then join us in the air conditioned Leake Room from 1-2 pm where kids can watch, and learn, some amazing magic tricks. Space is limited to room capacity. The Secrets of Magic show is an interactive confidence building workshop where the magician doesn’t do any of the tricks! Instead, audience members perform all of the magic! Members of the audience take the very special Oath of a True Magician, promising to have fun, respect others and of course to never reveal the secrets. The show’s goal is to build confidence in kids, help them believe in themselves, to discover that they can do anything, and that they are the magic. Successful completion allows the patron to return to Square One during open shop hours to use this equipment. Participants must be 18 or older, bring a valid library card and ID, have a signed waiver on file, and wear close-toed shoes.

    An introduction to the 3D printers available in Square One. In this Basic Use and Safety course students will learn how to load filament, upload files for printing, and adjust basic print settings for optimal printer performance. Upon successful completion of this course students will be authorized to use the 3D printers during open shop hours in Square One. Students must wear close-toed shoes, bring a Woodland Public Library card in good standing, and a photo ID. All participants under the age of 18 must have a liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian in order to attend.

In this tutorial we outline the basics of soldering irons, soldering stations, types of solder, desoldering and safety tips. Whether you're building a robot or working with Arduino, knowing how to solder will come in handy. Successful completion allows the patron to return to Square One during open shop hours to use this equipment. Participants must be 12 or older, bring a Woodland Library Card in good standing, photo ID, have a signed waiver on file and wear close-toed shoes. No sign-up required. Just show up early to ensure your place and complete your waiver if it's your first visit.

    Join us for Summer at the Library with free family mini-paint sessions in the Leake Room every Monday afternoon from 5-6 PM. Artists as young as three years old can participate in this kid-friendly beginners class. A parent or responsible adults must attend with young children, however, parents do not have to paint with their child. Older children can paint without supervision, and parents have the option of participating in Maker Mondays in Square One, next door to the Leake Room. Each week will feature an easy painting, using stickers made in Square One! Please wear clothing you do not mind getting paint on. All ages welcome, each participant can take home their 8 X 10 masterpiece. Arrive 15 minutes early because the class is a first-come-first-served basis with only 45 spots available. Tickets will be given out to each painter 15 minutes before class starts.
