  3. Science and Society Discussion Series

October 17, 2019, 6:30 PM @ Woodland Public Library Leake Community Room

Entrepreneurship and the ventures to which it gives rise are increasingly seen as uniformly beneficial. Entrepreneurship courses have been introduced in High Schools. Entrepreneurship majors, projects, and endowed professorships have been established at the college and university level. And entrepreneurial ventures have been embraced as the preferred vehicle to implement governmental policy and social change. But is entrepreneurship an unmitigated good? Dr. Donald Palmer will discuss the ways in which entrepreneurial ventures may be uniquely vulnerable to misconduct—including unethical, socially irresponsible, and even criminal behavior. Donald Palmer is Professor of Management in the Graduate School of Management at UCD. ************** The Science & Society sessions provide opportunities for the public and those engaged in research and policymaking to share ideas and concerns. All are welcome to attend, and we encourage an open dialog on all the topics presented.
